David has helped create successful branding strategies for some of world’s best-known companies, including Dell Computer, Toyota, Ford, Sony, Applied Materials, P&G, Mattel, Hilton, United Airlines and Callaway Golf.  He is most passionate about inspiring brands to embrace new marketing, media and digital innovations.

In 2007, he co-founded Barrie D'Rozario Murphy, a brand advertising and digital marketing agency, which was subsequently named “Best Small Agency in the U.S.” by the American Association of Advertising Agencies.  He is Co-President and leads brand planning for the Minneapolis-based agency.  He has created a new connection planning model called Experience Planning, which puts interactive experiences at the center of brand strategies.

Before BD’M, David held leadership posts at several global agencies, including President of Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles (and member of Saatchi's worldwide executive board) and CEO of the combined offices of Y&R and Wunderman in Southern California.


Among the range of marketing categories in which he's worked, his experience in automotive marketing runs deep.   He has helped develop national brand and dealer marketing campaigns for Toyota, Lincoln, Jaguar and Land Rover and has worked on numerous product launches, including the current generation Toyota Tundra. 


David has earned numerous EFFIE awards from the American Marketing Association, as well as the “Anthony L. Bucci Excellence in Communication Ethics Award” from Duquesne University.  He is Vice Chair of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.  David publishes his points of view on marketing at wikibranding.net.  

He was born in Pakistan, lived in Ireland, and has journeyed to more than 35 countries. He is a graduate of Duquesne University.  His passions include mountain biking, scuba diving and spending time on his boat, Murchu.  David’s greatest accomplishment is helping to raise two wonderful young ladies.
